Recently, I’ve been seeing Greek yogurt bagel bites all over social media, so I figured why not give them a try?!

They’re just as yummy as a bagel, but without the hassle of having to rise the dough or boil the bagels. And the best part? They’re made with just 5 simple ingredients you may already have on hand!

Honestly, I think this recipe tastes even better than regular bagel bites thanks to the addition of Greek yogurt, which makes them softer, fluffier, and adds protein to the dough. It also gives the bagel bites a little bit of a tangy, sourdough-ish taste that I love!

Plus, they’re easy to make, cheap, kid-friendly and customizable. There are so many ways to change up the recipe based on your preference and taste.

Okay enough raving about these bagel bites, let’s get into the recipe!

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Self-rising flour – this is different than all-purpose flour because it already contains baking powder and salt. If you don’t have self-rising flour, you can make your own by mixing 1 cup of all-purpose flour + 1½ tsp baking powder + ¼ tsp salt

  • Greek yogurt – this will make your bagel bites soft and fluffy while adding protein. I used low-fat yogurt and the bagel bites still turned out delicious

  • Cream cheese – you can use full-fat or low-fat cream cheese. I used spreadable cream cheese, but block cream cheese will also work well in this recipe. Pro tip pop your block or tub of cream cheese in the freezer for about 15 minutes prepare the bites. This will make it easier for you to cut pieces of cream cheese for the dough

  • Egg – this ingredient is optional, but I like to brush the tops of the bagel bites with egg before baking to give them a shiny, golden brown finish

  • Everything bagel seasoning – you don’t have to use this seasoning if you’re not a fan – you can add a herb topping or even leave the bagel bites plain!

Substitution Ideas

📌 Opt for low-fat cream cheese

📌 Using whole wheat flour – bagel bites may be denser and baking times will change

📌 Skip the seasoning or use herb topping

📌 Adding veggies – experiment with finely grated veggies mixed into the batter like carrots, zucchini, cooked spinach, roasted red pepper, or caramelized onions

  • Mixing bowls – I love the Pyrex glass mixing bowls, but you can use whatever you have on hand!

  • Measuring cups and spoons – I swear by the KitchenAid measuring spoons and cups

  • Baking sheet – I like using a large baking sheet so that I can make a bunch of bagel bites in one go

  • Parchment paper – I highly recommend baking your bagel bites on parchment paper so they don’t stick to the pan and can be removed easily. Plus it makes cleaning up a breeze!

  • Pastry brush (optional) – makes it easier to apply egg wash, but definitely optional! My pastry brush is currently in one of my moving boxes, so I just used a spoon to carefully apply egg wash to my bagel bites before baking

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Make the dough

First, you’re gonna make the dough! It’s super simple to make – you just mix the Greek yogurt with self-rising flour. The hardest part is making sure you get the right consistency.

The dough should not be super sticky. You should be able to roll it without too much of the dough sticking to your fingers.

2. Divide the dough

You can cut the dough into 12 equal pieces, but honestly I’m too lazy to do that. For each bagel bite, I grabbed about 2 tbsp of the dough, rolled it into a ball, and placed it on a parchment-lined baking sheet – as pictured above.

You can make the dough balls as big or as small as you want!

3. Stuff the dough

Take one of your dough balls and flatten it into a disc as pictured above.

In the center, add the cream cheese. I added about ½ teaspoon of chilled cream cheese into each disc, but you could add more or less depending on your preference. Make sure not to overstuff!

Fold each side of the disc up and around the cream cheese filling to seal it up. Roll gently into a ball and place back on the baking sheet. Repeat the process for each dough ball.

4. Sprinkle on the seasoning

Arrange the stuffed bagel bites on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops of each bagel bite with egg wash. You can make the egg wash by just beating an egg in a small bowl.

Sprinkle each bagel bite with the everything bagel seasoning. I rolled each bagel bite in the seasoning for one of my batches and I don’t recommend doing that because it made the balls WAY too salty!

5. Bake and serve!

Bake in the oven at 375° F for 20 minutes. The tops should be golden brown. Let them cool for about 5-10 minutes before serving!

Notes & Suggestions

  • No self-rising flour? No problem! Make your own by mixing 1 cup of all-purpose flour + 1½ tsp baking powder + ¼ tsp salt

  • Freeze the cream cheese for 15 minutes before prepping the bagel bites – this makes it easier to cut and add the cream cheese into the dough

  • Mini version – make 24 smaller bites instead of 12 for a toddler-sized portion, party appetizer, or portion-controlled servings

  • Make them sweet – swap the everything bagel seasoning for cinnamon sugar and add a touch of vanilla extract to the dough. You can also try stuffing with strawberry or blueberry cream cheese for a fun twist!

Storage Instructions

  • Refrigerator: Let the bagel bites cool and then store in an airtight container. These bites are good in the fridge for up to 3 days. I recommend reheating them in a toaster oven or air fryer for a few minutes before serving

  • Freezer: Flash freeze the baked bites on a baking sheet until firm, then transfer to a zip-top freezer bag. They’ll keep for up to 2 months. Reheat from frozen at 350°F for 8–10 minutes in the oven or 5 minutes in the air fryer

  • Make ahead: You can prep and fill the dough balls ahead of time, then refrigerate them for up to 24 hours before baking. Just add 1–2 extra minutes to the bake time!

Frequently Asked Questions

While I wouldn’t consider these bagel bites to be the healthiest breakfast or snack in the world, I do think that they are a healthier option compared to a regular bagel with cream cheese. I personally like eating these bagel bites with some eggs, fruit, or veggies.

Here’s some of the good stuff in this recipe:

  • The dough contains protein, calcium, and probiotics thanks to the addition of Greek yogurt. Protein helps support growing muscles, while calcium supports healthy bones and teeth

  • No added sugar – these bagel bites skip refined sugars, making them a clean recipe which is great for toddlers and kids

  • Baked, not fried which cuts down on unhealthy fats and keeps these light. I also used low fat yogurt for this recipe, and they still turned out amazing!

  • Made with just 4 wholesome ingredients – Fewer ingredients = fewer additives. You know exactly what’s going into each bite!

🤑 The cost estimate for this recipe is $3.27 for 12 bagel bites which comes out to $0.27 per bagel bite!

Here are some tips to save money when making this recipe:

  • Use store-brand Greek yogurt – I used Chobani because that’s what we had at home, but you can definitely make this recipe with store-brand Greek yogurt! It’s typically just as nutritious and much cheaper than name brands

  • Use all-purpose flour to make your own self-rising flour – all-purpose flour is usually cheaper and easier to find. You can turn it into self-rising flour by mixing 1 cup of all-purpose flour + 1½ tsp baking powder + ¼ tsp salt

  • Opt for spreadable cream cheese which is usually cheaper and easier to work with

  • Make your own everything bagel seasoning if you already have sesame seeds, garlic powder, onion flakes, and poppy seeds

If you don’t have self-rising flour, you can make your own by mixing 1 cup of all-purpose flour + 1½ tsp baking powder + ¼ tsp salt.

You can, but full-fat or low-fat yogurt gives the best flavor and texture!

No worries! Add a sprinkle of flour, 1 tablespoon at a time, and knead gently until it’s easy to handle. The dough should be soft, and shouldn’t stick too much to your fingers. See the photos above for reference.

Yep, sure can! Assemble them from steps #1-4, then cover, and refrigerate overnight. Bake fresh the next day or freeze them if you’re prepping more than 24 hours ahead.
