Are These Veggie Tortilla Pizzas Healthy?
You bet they are! Tortilla pizzas are a lighter version of a traditional pizza. Since they’re made with a thin base and baked in the air fryer, they’re lower in carbs and fats. Plus, you can add veggies to these tortilla pizzas to help make them even more nutritious!
Here’s some of the good stuff you’ll find in this recipe:
- Veggie-loaded – I just made mine with bell peppers, but you can add other veggies to these pizzas. Just make sure you don’t overload the tortillas since they’re delicate and may break!
- Cheese is a good source of calcium for strong bones and healthy teeth!
- Perfect portion size that’s great as a “personal pizza” and a lightened up version of pizza. Plus, it’s a good sized lunch for toddlers and young kids
- Lighter than traditional pizza – no heavy crust here!
Ingredients You’ll Need

- Tortillas – I used fajita-sized flour tortillas, but you could use whole-wheat tortillas or a smaller sized tortilla as well to make this air fryer veggie tortilla pizza. If you do use another type or size of tortilla, just watch closely while it’s cooking in the air fryer, since cooking times will likely vary.
- Pizza sauce – you can use homemade or store-bought. If you use store-bought sauce, try to find one with less sodium and no added sugars. I found mine at Aldi!
- Shredded cheese – any type of cheese will taste great, but mozzarella is traditional. I think cheddar cheese on pizza is delicious as well! Freshly grated cheese melts better, but bagged shredded cheese will work in a pinch
- Toppings – feel free to use whatever you have in the fridge! I only had a bell pepper, but you could add chopped red onions, broccoli, zucchini, or mushrooms to these pizzas. Even meat toppings would work for this recipe. Only add 1-2 toppings per pizza to avoid breaking the tortillas
- Olive oil spray – if you don’t have a spray bottle, you could just brush on some olive oil or spread it on with a rubber spatula or knife. I only used olive oil on the top of the tortilla, but feel free to use it on both sides to make it more crispy.

- Air Fryer – I got a Ninja air fryer last year and it’s been incredible, so I highly recommend that one if you’re in the market for an air fryer! If you don’t have an air fryer, no worries! You could just bake these in your oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for about 3-5 minutes. Just watch it carefully to make sure it doesn’t overcook.
- Parchment Liners for air fryer (optional) – this is totally optional, but something I highly, highly recommend if you use your air fryer as often as I do. I just started using these liners a few months ago and oh my god, they have been life changing. It’s so easy to get the food in/out of the air fryer, the basket is so much easier to clean up without stuck food bits, and it still crisps up the food perfectly without any compromise!
- Vegetable chopper (optional) – another optional item, but totally a lifesaver in the kitchen! I hate chopping veggies, but this Fullstar vegetable chopper I ordered up from Amazon a year ago has made it SO easy to chop up veggies for meal prep and busy weeknight dinners. Even my old-school mom was impressed by this little gadget!

Step-By-Step Instructions for Making Air Fryer Veggie Tortilla Pizza
1. Prep the tortillas
Lightly spray the tortilla with olive oil spray or brush a little bit of olive oil if you don’t have a spray bottle. I just sprayed the top of the tortilla (the side where the sauce, cheese, and toppings will be on), but you can spray both sides if you wish to make it a little more crispy.
2. Spread on the pizza sauce

Cover the top of the tortilla with the pizza sauce. Leave about 1/2 inch from the edge uncovered so you can grab the pizza easily.
3. Sprinkle the cheese

My favorite part of the pizza – the cheese! I used about 1/2 cup for 2 pizzas, but you can use more or less as desired. You can even have your little one help with sprinkling the cheese!
4. Add your toppings

Add your toppings of choice to the pizza. You could “tuck” them in the cheese a little bit so that they don’t fall off easily. If you’re making this recipe for younger toddlers, see the notes section for suggestions on making sure the veggies are soft enough for them to eat.
5. Pop it in the air fryer

Time to cook your creation! As mentioned above, I like to use parchment liners for my air fryer basket, but you could just put the pizza in the basket directly. Cook at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 3-4 minutes. Watch carefully since these pizzas cook fast! See the notes section for more.
6. Enjoy the pizza!

Let the pizzas cool for 3 minutes then slice into 4 wedges. You can add basil or other garnishes if desired. Enjoy your air fryer veggie tortilla pizza!
Substitution Ideas
📌 Use a whole wheat tortilla which contains more fiber, protein, and complex carbs to keep you full for longer
📌 Try lighter cheeses like part-skim mozzarella or a light sprinkle of feta or Parmesan cheese
📌 Cut down the sodium by using low-sodium sauce or making your own pizza sauce at home
📌 Try using other veggies like mushrooms, bell peppers, zucchini, or even eggplant
📌 Add protein by sprinkling some cooked chicken, turkey pepperoni, or sausage crumbles
Notes & Suggestions
- I cannot stress enough how important it is to make sure that you are watching the pizzas carefully because they cook fast! I found that 4 minutes is perfect for the way I like my pizza, but you may find that 3 minutes is enough for you, or 5 minutes may be better if you want it more crispy. The photos below demonstrate the difference between 3 minutes vs 4 minutes of cooking these bad boys.
- For younger toddlers, I suggest cooking the pizzas for only 3 minutes to keep them soft enough to chew. Also, make sure the vegetables are soft before serving. You can soften the veggies even more by sautéing or steaming them before adding to the pizzas
- I recommend eating these tortilla pizzas at the time of preparation, but you can store the cut wedges in an air-tight container for up to 3 days. Reheat for 1 minute in the air fryer, or toaster oven. Microwaving will just make ’em soggy, so I don’t suggest this method of reheating!

Here are some tips to save money when making this recipe:

How to Adapt This Recipe for Babies and Toddlers
Disclaimer: The information provided in this section is for general informational purposes only and is not intended as medical advice. Always consult with your own doctor or your child’s pediatrician before making any changes to your diet or your child’s diet/feeding approach. Read the full disclaimer here.
For babies (9+ months)
- Air fry for just 3 minutes so that the tortilla stays soft and easy to gum for babies
- Cut into appropriate sizes so that your baby doesn’t choke while eating
- Choose a sauce with no added salt or sugars. Consider making your own or just using tomato puree without any additives
- Don’t give raw veggies and make sure veggies are soft and mushy before serving
- Slice into long strips about the width of two fingers for baby-led weaning or tiny bite-sized pieces for pincher grasp practice.
For toddlers (1+ year)
- Air fry for just 3 minutes so that the tortilla stays soft and easy to chew for toddlers
- Use low sodium sauce. You can mix tomato sauce with pureed veggies (like carrot or red pepper) for an extra nutrition boost
- Slice into small triangles or squares for easy grabbing
- Let toddlers pick their own toppings! Offer soft, pre-cooked options like diced mushrooms, chopped spinach, and quartered cherry tomatoes
- Encouraging your little one to help “build” their pizza is also a great sensory activity and gives them a sense of control over what they eat—win-win!
Storage Instructions
Fridge: Store leftover slices in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer for 2–3 minutes at 350°F to re-crisp the tortilla
Freezer: Not recommended for freezing assembled pizzas (they get soggy), but you can freeze pre-chopped toppings in advance to save time
