Ahh, the good old peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It’s such a classic and so darn delicious!

If you’re a fan of PB&J, you’ve probably heard of Uncrustables, which are store-bought PB&J sandwiches with the crusts cut off.

While I love the convenience of store-bought Uncrustables, they can get pretty darn expensive! That’s why I’ve started making my own Uncrustables at home. It costs just $0.62 per sandwich and it’s super duper easy to make!

You just need 3 ingredients and 10 minutes and you can make a batch of these freezer-friendly sandwiches to have on hand for quick lunches or snacks. There’s no cooking and very minimal prep involved!

You will need a sandwich cutter & sealer that you can get from Amazon under $10. I got this heart-shaped sandwich cutter and it makes the cutest sandwiches! Just makes lunch time a little extra special ☺️

Making your own Uncrustables at home is not only cheaper, but it also gives you control over what goes into them. I tend to use whole wheat bread, jelly without high-fructose corn syrup, and natural unsalted peanut butter – but you can use literally anything you want or have on hand!

PB&J is also very shelf stable, which makes it a travel-friendly snack and great for school lunchboxes.

  • Ready in 10 minutes
  • Kid-friendly
  • Cheap to make (only $0.62 each!)

Ingredients & Substitutions

  • Whole wheat sandwich bread: I like using whole wheat bread, but you can use any bread you like. Just make sure it’s the standard, sandwich-sized bread that will fit the sandwich sealer.

  • Peanut butter: I had crunchy peanut butter so that’s what I used but you can use creamy peanut butter, almond butter, cashew butter, or even sunflower seed butter for those with allergies.

  • Jelly: I used a store-bought jelly without high fructose corn syrup and minimal added sugars. Grape and strawberry are classic choices, but you can use any flavor you prefer.

Equipment

  • Sandwich cutter & sealer (see notes below)

Ingredients

  • 16 slices whole wheat bread
  • 8 tbsp peanut butter
  • 8 tbsp strawberry or grape jelly

Instructions

  • Spread 1 tbsp of peanut butter and 1 tbsp of jelly onto one slice of bread.
  • Top with another slice of bread.
  • Place the sandwich in a sandwich sealer and press down firmly to seal the edges.
  • Remove the sandwich from the sealer and carefully remove the crusts.

Notes

  • I typically get about 8 sandwiches from one loaf of whole wheat bread.

  • Storage: Wrap each sandwich in plastic wrap. Then place the wrapped sandwiches in a single layer inside a freezer-safe bag or airtight container. Freeze for up to 1 month. You can also put them in a fridge for up to 4 days.

  • You can use white bread, multigrain bread, or any sandwich bread you prefer instead of whole wheat!

  • For a nut-free version, I recommend substituting the peanut butter with sunflower seed butter.
