I’m one of those people who loves the idea of eating spinach, but hates actually eating spinach. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve bought a bag of spinach only to have most of it wilt and go bad in the fridge.
But, I recently discovered these 5-ingredient spinach turkey cream cheese rollups and I actually finished an entire bag of spinach leaves for the first time! Pretty proud of myself to say the least 🤣

They’re perfect for adding to school lunchboxes, bringing them to work for lunch, or taking to a party as an appetizer. They take 10 minutes to make, but you can also meal prep them the night before and stick them in the fridge to enjoy the next day.

Ingredients You’ll Need

- Tortillas – this is going to form the base for your roll ups. I could only find flour tortillas, but I would recommend using whole wheat tortillas for extra fiber and protein. You could also try low-carb or spinach tortillas for this recipe. I used tortillas that were about 10″ in diameter
- Sliced turkey breast – look for low-sodium if possible. I got the Trader Joe’s brand which has 370mg of sodium per 4 thin slices
- Sliced cheese – I used white cheddar cheese, but you can use whichever cheese you prefer or have in the fridge. I think these roll-ups would taste great with provolone, pepperjack, or even gouda cheese!
- Baby spinach leaves – I use the bagged mix that included spinach, kale, and chard. Feel free to use just spinach or kale alone
- Chive & onion cream cheese spread – I used flavored cream cheese, but you can use low-fat or plain cream cheese if desired. This is going to act as the “glue” for the pinwheel so the fillings stay in place
Substitution Ideas
📌 Dairy allergy? Use mayo, hummus, nut butter, or plant-based dairy products instead of cream cheese
📌 Use whole-wheat, low-carb, or spinach tortillas – I only had flour tortillas on hand, but I will definitely be trying this recipe with whole wheat tortillas next time!
📌 Opt for low-sodium deli meat to cut down on the sodium. You can also use ham, chicken, or salmon instead of turkey if you wish
📌 Try different types of cheese – these roll-ups taste good with cheddar, provolone, gouda, or pepper jack cheese
📌 Try adding other veggies like shredded carrots, died bell peppers, or thinly sliced cucumber. I would only use 1-2 veggies if you’re also adding turkey and cheese, since overloading the roll-ups may cause them to burst open
Equipment You’ll Need
One of the great things about this recipe is that you don’t need any fancy equipment to make these roll ups! Just a few basic tools that you probably already have on hand.
- Cutting board or a flat surface to arrange the roll ups
- Knife to spread the cream cheese and cut the pinwheels
That’s seriously it. I told you this recipe was super easy!

Step-by-Step Instructions for Making the Roll Ups
1. Spread cream cheese on the tortilla

Lay your tortilla flat on a cutting board or flat surface. Spread about 2-3 tablespoons of cream cheese across the entire surface in an even layer.
You can put more or less cream cheese depending on your preference. Cover the entire surface, but leave about a 1-inch clearing from the edge.
2. Add the fillings

Place 3-4 slices of turkey on the tortilla. Place 2 slices of cheese on top of the turkey slices. I like to cut my sliced cheese in half so it covers a larger surface, but you don’t have to do this.
Don’t worry if the edges aren’t completely covered, especially the right and left edges since we’re going to chop those off at the end anyway!
Lay the spinach leaves on top of the turkey and cheese layers. Make sure you place them in a single layer since overcrowding can cause your roll-ups to burst or the spinach leaves to fall out.
3. Roll it up

Starting from the bottom edge, roll the tortilla up as tightly as possible. This can take a little bit of practice! Tuck in the spinach leaves as you’re rolling. Leave the sides open – no need to fold them.
4. Slice the roll-up

Cut the roll-up into individual portions, about 1-inch thick. I recommend starting in the center and working your way to the sides. Chop off the ends – you can eat those as a treat for all your hard work!
If you’re struggling with this step, and all of your fillings fall out, you can wrap the roll-up in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 20-30 minutes before cutting. Also make sure you’re not overstuffing your roll-ups.
5. Serve and enjoy!

Notes & Suggestions
- Use fresh tortillas – I recommend using tortillas that are fresh and stored at room temperature. I made the mistake of refrigerating my open bag of tortillas and they dried out, became brittle, and did not roll up well
- Having a hard time cutting the rollups? Wrap the roll-up in plastic wrap, then refrigerate for 20 minutes before slicing into pieces. This will make them easier to cut
- Make it for meal prep! These roll-ups are great for meal prep! Make them the night before and store it inside an air-tight lunchbox or bento box for the next day
Storage Instructions
- Fridge: Store leftover roll ups in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. They’re best if eaten within 24 hours for peak freshness.
- Freezing not recommended: Tortillas and cream cheese do not thaw well and may become soggy.
- Lunchbox: Pack with an ice pack to keep cool.
